What We Are

CBI seeks to reintergrate the principle of “The Village” back into our community. Through collaboration we seek to redefine how one learns through the application of technical skills. As we learn we teach, thus the cycle is born.

How We Started

After working in corporate as Community liaisons, our founders were constantly reminded of the disparity of culture. Thus, making it difficult to connect to a community of a similar background, talent went undiscovered. So as they decided to educate under-served students in the city of Indianapolis, Code Black Indy, Inc. was born. CBI’s mission is to exist as the pipeline to high paying tech careers and crowd-sourced technological advancements by forming an environment for under-served communities to elevate themselves.

The Hard Data

Only 8.2 percent of all degrees conferred to Blacks in 2015-2016 were in STEM fields and just 5.7 percent of total Black employment in 2017 was in the tech industry. By contrast, 12.8 percent of degrees and certificates conferred to whites were in STEM, and 8.5 percent of white workers were employed I tech industry.
